Independent, documented inspection is the difference between a shipment you argue about and one you accept on arrival. Here's how Atlantic inspects, grades and packages every consignment before container loading.
Moisture control
Pin-type moisture meter readings on a statistical sample of every bundle. Target 12% ± 2% for KD lumber; ≤ 20% for AD. Non-conforming pieces are pulled and rejected.
Grading & defects
Prime, FAS and Common grading rules. Defect scoring for knots, splits, wane, checks, shake, sapwood and insect activity — with tolerance per grade documented in advance.
Photographic dossier
Structured photo set per shipment: stacks pre-loading, bundle labels, moisture readings, container interior and door-closing shots — issued digitally within 24 hours of loading.
Our 6-step inspection process
- 1. Mill acceptance
Incoming lumber inspected on arrival at our marshalling yard against the purchase specification.
- 2. Restacking & grading
Restacked into export bundles by grade, thickness and length. Reject piles quarantined.
- 3. Moisture check
Statistical MC sampling by bundle; failing bundles returned for further drying.
- 4. Marking & counting
Each bundle tagged with unique ID, species, grade, volume and MC. Piece counts logged.
- 5. Container loading
Loaded under supervision with photographic record. Container sealed with numbered seal.
- 6. Document release
Inspection report, photo dossier and packing list issued to buyer and shipping bank.
